Today is the birthday of René Descartes (March 31, 1596 – February 11, 1650), philosopher, mathematician, scientist, and writer. René Descartes has been referred to as one of the most influential thinkers in human history, and is sometimes called the founder of modern philosophy.René Descartes, is another author whose writings have been banned. In 1663, the Pope placed his works on the Index of Prohibited Books - the list was abolished in 1966.
